If you’re a transitioning service member, we provide SkillBridge internship opportunities and job placement services upon your transition from the military.
If you’re a veteran or military spouse, we connect you with employers who are champions of your military experience.
We offer resume and interview support to qualified candidates applying for any of our open roles, and we help with salary/benefits negotiation once you’ve received a job offer.
We understand the value of your military expertise and can help translate your experience into language an employer understands.
If you apply for a role on our website and we determine that you’re a qualified candidate, we will help you target your resume, prepare you for interviews, and advocate on your behalf.
You don’t have to compete against all the other candidates when our recruiters can cut the line for you.
The talent pool is our collective database of people who are actively seeking work or are interested in learning about new opportunities as they become available. Whenever we get new roles, we share them with the talent pool first – even before we publicly advertise those new positions.
If your resume demonstrates the skills and experience our client is looking for, we’ll contact you to see if you’re interested in applying. We also provide regular email updates to candidates in our talent pool to let you know about our hottest jobs and newest opportunities.
No. HireMilitary’s services are always FREE to our military community.
If you have the right qualifications or potential for the role, we’ll contact you within 3-5 business days to schedule a face-to-face video screening call.
Please make sure your LinkedIn profile is up-to-date and complete so our recruiters can get a better idea of who you are as a candidate before your screening call.
If you are not a competitive candidate for the role, we’ll send you an email acknowledgment to let you know. This can take up to two weeks after you submit your application.
HireMilitary supports qualified candidates who apply for open roles through our website. If we determine that you have the right skills and experience for a particular role, we'll help you customize your resume to make a strong impression.
If you need further support, we highly recommend contacting one of the following organizations. They provide FREE career counseling and resume writing services to transitioning service members, veterans, and military spouses.
• The USO Transition Program provides one-on-one career coaching and military transition assistance. They'll help you identify your goals and build a roadmap to achieve them. They'll also help you find the services and resources that best fit your needs.
• Hire Heroes USA provides personalized service and support, including help with writing resumes. They’ll help you translate your military experience into a professional civilian resume and show you how to tailor your resume to a particular role.
Targeting your resume to a specific job shows the employer that you meet their requirements, which increases your chances of being invited to an interview.
Unfortunately, failure to target your resume can get you rejected. Even if you're perfect for the role, a recruiter might assume you're not a good fit if your resume doesn't explicitly show you've got the skills and experience that match the job description.
Our roles change daily, so we recommend you bookmark our website and check back often.
You can also join our internships talent pool (for transitioning service members) or jobs talent pool (for veterans and military spouses) to receive regular email updates with our newest opportunities.
Finally, you can check both our SkillBridge internships and full-time jobs pages to see if you find anything that interests you. We might be able to convert a full-time role into a SkillBridge internship and vice-versa with a SkillBridge internship being converted to a full-time role.
Contact us if you see an opportunity that interests you!
While some SkillBridge/CSP programs require a degree to participate, HireMilitary does not. We provide opportunities for all education and skill levels, with or without a degree.
Every position has different requirements, so read through the job description to find out what’s required and what’s preferred for that specific job. You might find that professional experience can often be substituted for education. Many of our employer partners offer entry-level roles as well, so check out our website to see if you find a role that interests you.
HireMilitary will NEVER require a service member to use their hard-earned benefits to participate in a SkillBridge internship.
However, some SkillBridge programs do require service members to tap into their GI Bill to cover the costs of training. If you go this route, you’ll use a portion of the benefits you’ve earned and reduce the amount you’ll have for future education. Just be informed and make the best decision for you—if a training program requires the use of your GI Bill but leads to your dream career, go for it! Research all your options, including HireMilitary, to make sure you set yourself up for success.
Bottom line: There are NO COSTS to service members who participate in any of HireMilitary’s internships.
Not a problem! We understand that every transition is different, and we’ll tailor your SkillBridge internship to accommodate your specific needs. While we do occasionally offer cohorts, most of our internships have flexible start and end dates based on your transition timeline.
Your internship will take place within your final 180 days on active duty, with an average internship length of 90–120 days. The sweet spot for applying is around 9–10 months before your separation date so you’ve got enough time to find the right company, conduct your interview, and get command approval.
If you’ve got at least 9–10 months left in service, we encourage you to join the SkillBridge talent pool and start submitting applications.
We can help with that!
As an approved DoD SkillBridge provider, HireMilitary can partner with any company to create a SkillBridge internship just for you. If you find a company that’s willing to host you as a SkillBridge intern, we can bring them under the HireMilitary umbrella.
While we do charge employers a small fee to participate, HireMilitary’s services are ALWAYS FREE to service members. If you’d like to learn more, send an email to amber.pitkin@tenovallc.com
Here are a few options:
We recommend you contact your FRG or RCTAA before applying for a SkillBridge opportunity if you're in the National Guard or Reserves. If you're on Title 10 or Title 32 status, you might be able to do a SkillBridge internship. Just make sure you verify which guidelines your transition office is following before you apply.
You can still participate in the DoD SkillBridge program, even if you're going through a medical evaluation board (MEB). There’s one caveat to this – the host employer should be aware that your start date is subject to change.
Assuming the employer is flexible with your timeline, we can plan your internship based on your estimated separation date. If you’ve got six months or more before you separate, we encourage you to apply for an internship to see how our team can help.
SkillBridge is a relatively new program, so your commander may not know much about it. Therefore, it’s critical that you communicate with your leadership early in the process to let them know your intentions. Make it easy for them to say “yes” by creating a plan that makes you expendable to your unit. If you’re clear about what you’re asking for, there's a better chance your request will be approved.
So, take ownership of your transition! The military will continue to function after you’re gone, but you’re the only one who can advocate for your future. If you need help communicating the importance of the SkillBridge program with your commander, here’s an article that might help.
The DoD SkillBridge program is designed for active-duty service members and select groups of the National Guard and Reserves in their last 180 days of service. Through this program, the Department of Defense continues to provide service members’ salaries, allowances, and benefits while they’re in training or working with approved industry partners. Therefore, veterans and military spouses are not eligible to participate.
If you’re a veteran or military spouse, check out our careers page for nationwide and fully remote job opportunities.
SkillBridge is supposed to provide an opportunity with a high probability of placement, but there’s no guarantee of a job at the end of your internship.
SkillBridge allows you to test your skills in the civilian world, immerse yourself in a company's culture, and see what it’s like to work there. At the same time, your host company will see if you’re a good fit for their organization. Once your internship is over, they are not required to extend a job offer, and you are not required to accept it if they do.
While there's no guarantee of a job offer, 97% of HireMilitary Interns are offered full-time employment by their host companies once they complete their internships!
